Looking for a way to pamper yourself on a budget? Well look no further, we here at LICKALIX did some experimenting on ourselves and here by, proudly present, five of our favourite DIY beauty recipes. They are all super easy to make at home and will make you feel like you just had a luxurious spa treatment. The best thing about it? You don't have to spend a small fortune on making yourself feel even more fruit-iful than you already are.
Nourishing Avocado Hair Mask: This three ingredient hair mask will nourish dry hair and leave it looking smooth and healthy. It is also a great way to use those overripe avocado you bought a week ago and then totally forgot about :)
What you will need:
1 Ripe Avocado
2 Tablespoons of Honey
2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
How to make it:
Mash up the avocado
Add the honey and olive oil
Apply to dry hair and leave in for 10- 15 minutes
Rinse out and wash and condition hair as usual
Cucumber and yogurt face mask: This is inspired by one of our moms. Lets face it (no pun intended), if anyone knows how to make the best home made beauty remedies it's them. This face mask will give you loads of hydration and is especially great for all of those with sensitive skin. The turmeric in the mix acts as a natural inflammatory- reducing redness and spots, while the cucumber and yogurt hydrate and calm the skin.
What you will need:
1/2 Cucumber
2-3 Tablespoons of Yogurt
1 Tablespoon of Turmeric (optional)
How to make it:
Use a cheese grater to finely grate the cucumber.
Add the yogurt and Turmeric and mix well.
Apply to the face (leaving out the eye area) and let the mixture work its magic for 10 minutes before washing it of with water.
Sugar Lip Scrub: This home-made scrub will make your lips feel soft and smooth while hydrating them at the same time. Perfect to use before putting on one of your new favorite fall-coloured lipsticks.
What you need:
1 Tablespoon Brown sugar
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Tablespoon Olive or Coconut Oil
How to make it:
Combine all of the ingredients and stir well.
Rub the mixture on to your lips and exfoliate them gently.
Then wipe or lick of off any excess product and marvel about how soft your lips feel.
Oat Face Mask: This face mask is great for tired skin. The oats will act as a scrub and leave your face glowing, while banana and honey add moisture. The cinnamon does not only make it smell delicious, it also acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps reduce redness and spots.
What you will need:
1 Ripe Banana
4-5 Tablespoons of oats
2 Tablespoons of honey
1/2 Teaspoon of cinnamon
How to make it:
Peel the banana and mash it up with a fork.
Add the other ingredients and stir until you have a well combined paste.
In circle motions rub gently onto your skin so the oats can work their exfoliating magic.
Leave on for 5-10 minutes before washing it off.
Fruity Face Scrub: This scrub exfoliates your face gently using the enzymes in pineapple and papaya. It will give your skin a radiant glow and make it feel amazingly soft. Be warned though, this mask will make your face itch or tingle. However, the feeling of your skin after is definitely worth it!
What you will need:
1/2 Cup of Pineapple
1/4 Cup of Papaya
How to make it:
Put both fruits into a food processor.
Mix together until you have a smooth paste.
Either using your hand or a cotton pad apply the mixture to your face - avoid the eye area!
Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing of with water.
Make sure to moisturize your skin after.
P.S. This works great for soft hands as well!
